I have met love - she has battered knees and goes begging from door to door

The artist group Atelier C1 DCH is bringing their visual-artistry interpretation of Pablo Picasso’s play "Le desir attrapé par la queue” (Desire caught by the tail) to the Valentiny Foundation in Luxembourg.

This surrealist drama, written in 1941, was first performed as a staged reading in 1956 in Bern, translated into German by Meret Oppenheim. Inspired by the play and its historical significance, Atelier C1 DCH has chosen the evocative title "J'ai rencontré l'Amour, il a des Genoux écorchés et mendie de Porte en Porte." (I have met love - she has battered knees and goes begging from door to door), cited from the play, to mark their upcoming exhibition at the Valentiny Foundation in Luxembourg, where they will unveil their latest artworks.

The play’s themes remain strikingly relevant, featuring ten characters with vivid names such as Bigfoot, The Onion, The Cake, as well as Skinny Fear and Fat Fear. Through a rich tapestry of language and sound, these characters confront the grim realities of occupation, war, hunger, and deprivation, while also expressing a profound longing for life, love, comfort, and connection. Drawing inspiration from these characters, their emotions, and their questions, the artists of Atelier C1 DCH build a bridge between the auditory landscapes of the 1940s and vibrant visual interpretations in today’s world.
